hoges created the topic: Mermaid Beach Wave Carnival
Gidday all and welcome to the new season
As per below from Heugs, great way to kick off the season, have a "serious" training session, or the pig pen alone for the nostalgia is worth the effort
Hello fellow Boat Captains...
As you should be aware, Mermaid is hosting the first gazetted carnival for season 2014/15...
This is wave catching carnival, which is an exciting new concept and a great way to dust off the cobwebs and kick off the season.
Fully supported by the ASRLQ (carnival format attached), one key outcome is to promote and reward good surf skills, boatmanship and safe racing.
With the carnival now less than a fortnight away, I would like to gauge interest and see if we can get a good showing...
This carnival is fee entry, with prizes for the divisional winners, as well as random prize draws (provided by our sponsors) during the day.
I am happy to advise that this carnival will also see the return of ''The Pig Pen'' - yes that's correct, ''The Pig Pen!''
From 11am, the beer tent will be open and we have organised two activities to take place - Tent Pole Racing and The Inaugural Mermaid Goanna Pull (YouTube Goanna Pull if you don't know what it is).
Individual entry to each events is $10/head. There will be two divisions - Mens and Womens and the winners stand to receive 50% of each prize pool.
It's going to be mate vs mate, club vs club, sweep vs sweep, rower vs rower, crabbing bowman vs crabbing bowman - all in all real hoot!
There'll also be entertainment for the occasion.
For our country cousins, Mermaid also has a race-worthy Clymer available for use - batteries will be charged and ready to go. The club also has bunk rooms which I'm sure can be made available provided we get enough notice through the right channels etc.
Guys, we would appreciate your support for this carnival and hope to see you on the beach.
