Navy National Premiership League - ASRL President's Newsletter

Navy National Surf Boat Premiership League is about set to go... A long drawn out process but we’re on the threshold of a start. We have had good crew support from entries already received but now it’s time to lock your crew into this exciting series. Like any sponsorship this is about “bums on seats”. As a sport we have long called for something special to help lift our profile. Ocean Thunder came along 4 years ago catering for the elite end and now Navy has made it possible for the ASRL to provide a truly National Series for all grass root rowers and crews. If this series is to survive and develop it is now incumbent on every rower…

Navy National Premiership League 2009 - ASRL President's Halfway Report - Dec 08

A big thanks to all who have joined the Navy Series so far.   We now know from the feed back that we are on the right track by feeding as much support as possible back to grass roots. For years we have looked on as other disciplines in Surf have been provided for and at times we have felt like the poor cousin. A range of senior Boat people have had several creditable attempts in the past to get something like this Navy Series up and running. For a variety of reasons each attempt at self promotion has ultimately enjoyed success for differing time spans but then fallen over. At the moment we have Ocean Thunder sitting at the top…

ASRL President's Report 2007-08 Season

Following on from the ASRL AGM held at North Steyne Surf Club on 19th July '08, the ASRL Committee and Members would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Secretary, Roz Bates and new Vice Presidents; Kim Marsh and Rick Eistreich.  At the same time, the ASRL is sad to be losing from the committee this year the input of Tim Nesbitt, Geoff Mathews & Greg Davies. Tim & Geoff were first year committee members who threw themselves into the fray and responded to every request made of them.  Greg Davies is part of the institution, being on the inaugural steering committee and has acted as Secretary of the League and its forbear, the International League of Rowers,…

ECOSurf – Surf Rowers helping protect the coastal environment...

SLSA's ECOSurf Policy was adpoted by the ASRL on 3rd May, 2008 BACKGROUND Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) is committed to the sustainable use of the coastal environment through the adoption of an ECOSurf policy.   It looks to demonstrate this commitment through the promotion of environmentally friendly practices, education and raising environmental awareness to ensure the sustainable use of our beach environment. The Australian Surf Rowers League (ASRL) has ready access to a great percentage of members through various established communication networks. Supporting SLSA’s ECOSurf policy enables the ASRL to position itself as an organisation that accepts its responsibility regarding doing something positive about protecting our fragile coastal environment.
