New Major Sponsor Announced
The Royal Australian Navy have agreed to join with us as the Major Sponsor for the 2007-08 “Navy George Bass Surfboat Marathon”. The committee is delighted to announce this sponsorship and look forward to working closely with our sponsor in providing a great event.
4 Weeks to start:
All’s now in place to make this another enjoyable Bass experience for all those who are joining us on this 15th George Bass Marathon.
The field will range from the very competitive to the enthusiastic which has always been the strength of the Bass. It’s our aim to provide a race catering to all levels of surfboat rower and it’s testament to the success of the race that many crews keep coming back to enjoy the experience.
The initial briefing will be held at the Catalina Country Club, Beach Rd Batehaven starting at 1.30pm Saturday 29 January. This is a must for all crews, support personnel & powerboat drivers. A full folder of information will be supplied to each team at this briefing. This includes all you need to know about camp sites, start times, location maps and generally who’s who in the zoo. You will have an opportunity at this briefing to ask any questions and talk to the people responsible for making the week happen. This is where everyone receives your Bass tee shirts & badges.
Everything else you need to know about further camp sites will be available at the Initial Briefing at the Catalina Country Club.

Special Rules for River Start:
Starting in the river will require some changes:
- The most significant being that your power boats will not be allowed in the river.
- This will mean that your first crew change can’t happen until somewhere near
- Due to this increase male crews will be able to use all 8 rowers for the first leg.
Major Change for Women:
This year the race duration has been increased for the Women’s event. For the first time our Gals will be able to race every day. Please check out the “Race Rules” section for detail but in summary female crews will, be able drop their worst days result. This will mean that you can take a lay day or row every leg and discount your worst result but like every good deal conditions apply so read the fine print.
